this isn't life anymore than a computer programm. It is still amazing to see them in action and great works on movement and the simple system used but without reproduction there can not be progress.get them to reproduce and we'll talk.

@albertotem Living things don't necessarily need any of those things. We need food, because that is our energy input, and we have to excreet because we eat. That's a round loop... We need to reproduce and grow because we're built by autonomous cells. They are built by us, so they don't need to be born or die, and thus they don't need to reproduce or grow. They have a simple conscience; they know where the water is, and they know where the dry sand is. That might be enough for a new type of life.

certainly, they are not alive, to be alive creature should be able to operate information which they dont. it is a very good mimicry of life.

It's absurd that people might classify these as alive. They're kinetic sculptures - a feat of both art and engineering. The artist himself doesn't believe this - if you actually listen to him and the audience, you can tell he's just being facetious for levity. |
